Patoli Recipe


Ingredients:

1 cup rice flour

1 cup freshly grated coconut

3/4 cup jaggery, grated or chopped

1/2 tsp cardamom powder

Banana leaves, cut into 6-inch squares

Water, as needed

Salt, to taste

Instructions:


In a mixing bowl, add the rice flour and a pinch of salt. Gradually add water and knead it into a smooth dough. The dough should be soft and pliable. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.


In another mixing bowl, mix together the grated coconut and jaggery. Add the cardamom powder and mix well.


Take a small ball of dough and flatten it using your fingers or a rolling pin to form a small disc. Place a spoonful of the coconut-jaggery filling in the center of the disc. Fold the edges of the disc over the filling and seal it to form a crescent-shaped dumpling.


Repeat this process with the remaining dough and filling.


Place the banana leaves on a steamer basket and brush them with a little oil. Place the stuffed dumplings on the banana leaves, leaving some space between each dumpling. Steam the dumplings for 15-20 minutes or until cooked.


Once cooked, remove the dumplings from the steamer and let them cool for a few minutes.


Serve the patoli warm or at room temperature.
