Dal Makhani
Ingredients:
1 cup whole black lentils (urad dal)
1/4 cup kidney beans (rajma)
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
2 green chilies, finely chopped
1 tsp ginger paste
1 tsp garlic paste
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chili powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
Salt, to taste
2 tbsp butter
1/4 cup cream
Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish
Instructions:
Soak the black lentils and kidney beans in water overnight.
Drain the water and pressure cook the lentils and beans with enough water for 6-7 whistles or until they are soft and cooked through. Allow the pressure to release naturally.
Heat butter in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
Add ginger and garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
Add chopped tomatoes and green chilies and cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Mix well.
Add the cooked lentils and beans and mix well.
Add water if needed to adjust the consistency of the dal.
Let the dal simmer for 15-20 minutes on low heat.
Add cream and mix well.
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or naan.
Enjoy your homemade dal makhani!
